The Philippine islands, 1571. You are:
Dayang Kandarapa, crown princess of the polity of Tondo and niece of paramount ruler Lakan Dula. You are named after the paddylark for your sweet song.
Juan de Salcedo, a Mexican soldier under Spain and the grandson of conquistador Don Miguel Lopez de Legazpi. You set out from your home looking for adventure.
You are in love, and wish to marry. Both Lakan Dula and Don Miguel are opposed to your union, and so rather than face their wrath you have decided to elope. You escaped on a raft and are now at the mercy of the elements, hopping from island to island. But by Juan’s sword or Kandarapa’s song, you will be able to survive.
